It streamlined and fixed a lot of issues from the TCG version but also gave it some multiplayer options to help balance out the players and their positioning. I got into it when it first came out, before the big change from CCG to LCG, and got a starter for when the LCG came out. There's also a card search available at which I prefer personally, but it doesn't have the latest couple of chapter packs listed.

Just read the rule book and the FAQs on FFG's website and you'll get the hang of it.Ĭardgamedb has a full list of the cards available in each pack, as well as a bunch of decklists, so once you get into constructing your own decks, this is an invaluable resource. There ARE a bunch of phases to the game, and timing questions can be tricky sometimes, so expect to screw up in your first couple of games. The politics and maneuvering in GoT is something that I feel is not as present in other card games. The game itself is a lot of fun, especially with 4 players. Not only does this provide all the materials you need to play the game, but it gives you a bunch of base cards for 4 of the houses that will likely be useful in any deck that you construct. If you are planning on getting into the game, start with the Core Set. If you want to play house Greyjoy or Martell, you'll probably need their core sets, Kings of the Sea/Princes of the Sun respectively. The core set contains basic decks for 4 of the houses, Stark, Baratheon, Lannister and Targaryen. The bigger box expansions (Lords of Winter, Princes of the Sun, etc) are house-specific and mainly contain cards for one house.

The basic chapter packs have cards for all of the houses in them - typically evenly distributed.
